Neenah is actively searching for a Product Safety Coordinator for our Performance Materials business. Based in Munising, MI, the primary responsibilities are Product Safety, Regulatory Compliance and Customer facing product and business inquiries, associated with Performance Materials.  The position supports all products manufactured in the US and sold globally and works in partnership with Global Performance Manufacturing sites.  This position serves as the primary Product Safety resource for internal customer within Neenah Performance Materials US.  




Safety, Quality and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Exercise personal leadership to provide an environment that puts a priority on providing a safe and healthy workplace for employees and conforms to applicable local, state, and federal codes and laws governing loss control.
  • Ensure products, raw materials and process conditions follow regulatory compliance through the product/process design cycle.
  • Support an effective Quality management process that will ensure conformance to all customer requirements yet supports increased rate of change. 

Grow the Top Line:

  • Support execution of PMD’s strategies by providing technical input and carrying out product development initiatives to support customers , markets and regulatory requirements.
  • Build, reinvent, and drive product/process designs that increase performance (for Customer and/or Mfg.) and cost attributes internally that enhance and maintain product margins.
  • Develop and control intellectual property for Neenah Global Performance Materials to ensure future revenue is protected/maximized.

Develop Capabilities:

  • Develop and implement improvements in product and process that positions Performance Materials as the customers number one choice in quality and performance.
  • Utilize investments in R&D to drive new product development through new substrates and raw materials (i.g. vinyl, latices and pulp) while integrating new innovations into process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain R&D analytical capabilities and assets which serve as a key R&D competency for product development, internal analysis and customer support

 Optimize our cost structure:

  • Continue to strive to improve quality and product reliability with the focus on first time quality, minimizing product variability and increasing customer delight
  • Support the R&D and business development functions within budgeted spending limit; keeping an eye toward sustaining or improving return on this investment
  • Continuously pursue secondary raw materials that ensures product integrity, sourcing cost flexibility and prevents disruption to both the customer and Neenah Paper, Inc


  • Bachelor’s or MS degree in; chemistry, paper science, polymer science, engineering or a related scientific or technical field of study with 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience working with regulatory information.  Demonstrated results showing ability to interpret and understand detailed regulatory documents/information and communicate business impacts
  • Strong knowledge of chemicals and the related hazards and ability to evaluate toxicology and potential hazards of chemicals proposed for use
  • Ability to build and organize chemical safety and regulatory data, audit and approve new product design submissions for regulatory and safety compliance, maintain appropriate product safety data base
  • Coordinate safety data sheets (SDS) development on product and formulations for R&D and Customer requests
  • Strong interpersonal communication and technical writing skills with proficiency in working effectively with internal customer (R&D, Operations, Sales/Marketing, Legal, IT) and external customers(Neenah Customers, vendors, consultants)
  • Ability to identify problems, recommend solutions and perform  timely decisions
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, self-starter and ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast pace business environment
